As the first music institution of higher education in China, the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, with the name National Conservatory of Music, was founded on November 27, l927. The Conservatory is authorized to confer degrees of bachelor, master and doctor standings. The departments including: musicology, composition and conducting, voice, piano, orchestral instruments, Chinese instruments, music education, music drama and, arts management together with a research institute and press, a middle school, and a primary school. More talents have emerged,, For its great achievements the Conservatory has been recognized world-over as “The cradle of Contemporary Chinese musicians.” The Conservatory is situated in the center of the city. |
